We are putting our plans for the Moonstream Bazaar on hold for now.

As some members of the Crypto Unicorns community had asked us about our decision to pause this project, we would like to explain our reasoning in a short update.

Although we plan to start with Crypto Unicorns, our goal with the Moonstream Bazaar has never been to build a marketplace only for one game. We intend to use code generation to automatically generate custom marketplaces for any blockchain game.

Given our objective, we will undertake the development of this product on our own, with no backing or blessing from any individual game project. Moonstream Bazaar can only be truly successful if game projects use it because it objectively provides players a better experience than any competing product on the market, not simply because they paid a lot of money for it.

This means that we are willing to absorb the technical, financial, and operational risk of building and running Moonstream Bazaar into our own business.

The risk that looms biggest on our minds, however, is that we will not be able to provide a good enough experience to convince users to switch from using Open Sea every day to using Moonstream Bazaar every day. This is something that we need to spend more time developing a strategy for. We would also like to study the adoption of the marketplace that Merkle Root proposes to deploy on September as part of the development of our strategy - see their draft proposal for more information.

We are a technology-first company, and everything we build starts of as a bunch of tools for mega-nerds (us included) before being turned into a product and made available to the general public. We are continuing, as planned, to develop the core technology that will be required for Moonstream Bazaar - the state and metadata cache, a lazy metadata crawler (crawls only when a token has been transacted with on chain), etc.

Before we start building Moonstream Bazaar as a product, we will use this technology in our API and our Crypto Unicorns player portal to make the Open Sea user experience better for the Crypto Unicorns community. We will keep you updated on these features as we release them, and we look forward to your feedback once they launch!
